ABOUT THIS SITE

I have given my self a challenge: visit 50 museums in 50 weeks, less than a year.  Why? I love museums and I am looking to work in a cultural institution.  Since this is a lot of museums, when I can I try to visit when I can get in for free or cheap. I live in New York, where there are a lot of museums, but I will also plan to visit museums whenever I’m out of town.

I will generally write about one exhibit at each museum, but I may also write about some things on permanent display.

As a technologist, I will be looking for a tech angle to each visit, either in the exhibition (kiosks, associated websites, etc.) or in the content of the exhibitions (digital art, exhibits about technology, etc).

Update After getting full-time work at a web developer at littleBits.cc, I have had less time to devote to this blog, and it took 70 weeks not, 50 as originally planned. However, during that time, I visited more than 50 museum exhibits —  sometimes I went back and visited for a second and third exhibit at a museum I had already blogged about (so I did not blog about these visits); other times, a museum visit would not inspire me to write a post, as I wanted to keep all of my posts about exhibits that excited me.

ABOUT ME

I am a long-time New Yorker, and even longer time technologist.  I was a programmer for many years, before becoming a technical manager.  I was a Technical Director at R/GA, a top digital agency in New York, but recently I have moved back into development, creating websites, an iPad app, and a browser-based installation with a startup called Hexagram.

When I started this blog, I was working freelance, and especially interested in working with projects or institutions with a culture angle. Since then, I have taken a position as a Full Stack Developer at littleBits.cc, a company that sells easy-to-use electronic building blocks for kid and adult makers and inventors.
